The etched portions of the blade features foliate scrolls, flowers and an eagle. The right side is etched with large lettering "Garde Nationale" and on the other side "Odre Public". This is a highly decorative and attractive blade. The hilt is a French form, nearly identical to the Pattern 1721 French swords. The grip is wrapped with black leather an decorated with copper wire. The black leather covered scabbard has brass mounts.
Excellent. Tri-color blade retains approximately 90-95% bright fire blue and gilt finishes. Etched areas are excellent retaining nearly all of their original polish with only a few areas of light grey freckles and some scabbard wear on high edges. Hilt and scabbard mounts retain a pleasing mustard patina. Grip has some light wear in high areas and is very good. Scabbard is excellent with only a few minor cracks and marks from use.
