The straight double-edged blade with central fuller is etched with floral and military motifs. The gilt brass beveled florally decorated scabbard is marked: 'AMES MFG. CO./CHICOPEE/MASS'. An almost identical example is pictured on page 149 of the Ames sword book. The sword pictured in the book was owned by General Albert Sidney Johnston (1803-1862).
