Confederate Griswold Revolver serial number 1658. Caliber 36 with a 7 1/2 inch round barrel. This early second model was recently discovered in New Orleans. All major components of this revolver are original. Full serial number is found in the usual spot on right side of frame, barrel, and cylinder. Secondary number '8' appears on underside of trigger guard and top of trigger. Secondary number would usually appear on top side of rammer but has been obscured by pitting. Wedge is unnumbered and appears to be a period replacement. Cryptic 'E' appears on frame, trigger guard, back strap and underside of barrel. Walnut grips show considerable shrinkage, but this is not unusual for Griswolds.

Revolver is overall in good condition. Overall has a brown patina with nice patina to brass parts. There are small patches of deep pitting on cylinder, right side of frame and loading assembly. Top of hammer has been pinched, reason unknown. Mechanics are a little loose but functional.
