US M1841 Mississippi Rifle by Tryon

Our Price: sold

US M1841 Mississippi Rifle by Tryon dated 1848 on lock. 33 inch barrel with US/JCB/VP stamped at breech. 'JCB' and 'WAT' cartouche on stock opposite lock. 'US' and numeral '2' appear on butt plate. Sub-inspector 'B' stamped on patch box, trigger guard, side plate. Initials 'WB' scratched on the inside of patch box. This one has been bored smooth to .60 caliber and the front sight made flush to muzzle. Appears to have had some provision for bayonet on underside of muzzle.

Stock has been sanded but two inspector cartouche remain visible and discernible 'JCB' and 'WAT'. A two inch wood splice has been skillfully added behind hammer and bolster. Retaining pin on front band spring is missing. Metal surfaces are smooth with a tiny amount of pitting encountered in the bolster area. Lock is fully functional. Hammer screw is brass and not original. Ramrod is treaded and appears to be original. Brass components have an attractive patina. Nice price.
