Gorgeous Circa 1840 Ames Militia Officer's Sword with a 31 1/4 inch blade and an overall length of 37 1/4 inches. Blade is bright with frosty etching over 2/3 of its length with various military & foliate motifs. Blade marked "AMES MFG CO CHICOPEE MA" in etched oval. Gilded brass hilt w/ knight's head pommel & chain handguard. Rare ivory grip. Gilded brass scabbard is marked "AMES MFG CO CHICOPEE MASS".
Blade shows areas of original factory polish. There are a few scattered darkened areas. Etching is quite crisp. Hilt retains nearly all of its original gilded finish. Grip undamaged. Scabbard likewise retains nearly 100% of its gilded finish.
