Massive North Carolina Confederate Clip Point Knife complete with scabbard. It is identical in almost every respect to the specimen pictured on page 164 of Confederate Bowie Knives by Josh Phillips and John Sexton. Most, including myself believe these were a product of a thus far unknown North Carolina factory. Photographed on page 267 of the same book is a period image of two brothers who were members of the 12th North Carolina State Troops. Both are proudly wielding what is unquestionably this same type of knife.

I have handled three examples of this knife and this is the only one that is complete with original scabbard.

17 3/4 inch blade with 6 inch clip point. Blade is bright with forging flaws and tool marks visible. Brass cross guard and grip ferrule. Sides of wood are slightly flattened. Brass washer inlaid into pommel. No play. Correct hand stitched leather scabbard with tin tip. Thick leather is supple and sturdy. Remains of an old museum tag can be seen but to lettering. At one time a belt loop was attached to throat but is now missing.

This may be the finest and largest examples of this knife known to collectors.
