Deluxe Presentation US Model 1860 Cavalry Officers Sword by Ames. This is the highest grade cavalry sword produced my Ames during the Civil War. If features a finely crafted "spider web hilt" with a shield superimposed on a panoply of arms. The quillon features a highly detailed eagle with wings spread.

The pommel is embellished with a knight in armor with a gaelic motto "BRAILAIN TON EIRINN".

Shagreen grip with triple gilt wire. Middle and upper scabbard mounts feature oak leaves.

34 1/2 inch blade with etching typical of Ames war time production.

Overall excellent condition. Hilt retains 70% of heavy gilt with the usual wear encountered on the high spots. Original buff leather blade washer is in place. The etching is completely visible but no frosting is evident. Scabbard retains virtually all of its original finish while the mounts retain 40-60% original gilt.
