KIA Confederate General Otto French Strahl's Battle Struck Haversack, Franklin, Tennessee. Strahl died heroically fighting with his men at the tragic Battle of Franklin where six confederate general's lost their lives. 

Strahl's haversack is classic confederate tarred linen with leather straps. The piece is documented with a wonderful period ink note:

"The Haversack  used by Brigadier Gen'l Otto Frederick Strahl of Tennessee during the late war between the states. The mutilation of the flap was by a fragment of a shell in the battle of Franklin, Tennessee, November 30 - 1864 in which Gen'l Strahl lost his life -"

 

Accompanied by a file of provenance documenting it's discovery in Virginia and it's sale in 2010 to a well known Tennessee collector.
