58 caliber Barrel 40". M-1861 Springfields were the workhorse of the Union infantry but nice honest examples are hard to find. This 1862 dated example is complete and matching with crisp lock & bbl. dates. This gun is in standard configuration with 2 leaf rear sight, 3 barrel bands, swelled ramrod and totally iron mounted.

Very good overall condition. Complete and original. Metal is a mottled dark gray / brown with pepper pitting. Markings are crisp on lock and barrel. Both inspector cartouches are discernable though light. Stock overall is sound w/ fairly sharp edges, hand worn patina & scattered cosmetic blemishes. Mechanically functional with bright shiny bore. PROVENANCE: Collection of Lewis Leigh Jr.
