SERIAL NUMBER B340. Cal. 451. Serial Number B340. This 3 band rifle has a 33” bAriel and 49” overall length. Iron mounted witch a round patch box. Lock is marked "WHITWORTH RIFLE CO." crown with sheaf over "W". Lock has a hammer safety. Barrel markings are standard 52 bore Birmingham proofs, "B340" & "WHITWORTH PATENT". Checkered forearm & wrist, fixed dovetail front sight and reverse ladder rear sight. Inside the patch box are the original sight settings, from when the gun was test fired at the factory.

UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: oak case with a fine "Whitworth Rifle Company" label, Hawksley flask & conical 2 piece .451 bullet mold. Case is sound internally, label is complete but soiled. Exterior of case weathered and worn especially on corners. 2 large cracks in lid with staining and scuffing. No key, however; both side latches secure case nicely. 2 Piece mold is fine overall. Sprue cutter retains about half of its blue finish. Horn handles are excellent & brass body has nice patina. Flask is very good with staining, still retains some bluing to spring.

Very fine condition overall. Barrel has some original finish, though turned mostly plum. Lock has areas of muted case colors, overall gray/plum. Stock is equally fine with fine figuring & color. Sharp diamond point checkering. Mechanically excellent with bright shiny bore. PROVENANCE: Atlanta History Center 2005
