Curved steel 28 inch blade with partial single fuller on each side. The top 10" of both sides are blued around an etched panel and the remainder of the blade, except for the last 4", is etched on both sides. The right side shows a large engraved and gilded eagle with an "E PLURIBUS UNUM" banner in its beak and a liberty pole above drums and cannons, in the center of the etched panel are flags, pole arms and a cannon, marked "WARRANTED" near the ricasso. The other side has an etched panel within the blued section with crossed flags and pole arms, as well as engraved and gilded pole arms above the panel. The etched portions of the blade features foliate scrolls, flowers and an eagle. The right side is etched with large lettering "Garde Nationale" and on the other side "Odre Public". This is a highly decorative and attractive blade. The hilt is a French form, nearly identical to the Pattern 1721 French swords. The grip is wrapped with black leather an decorated with copper wire. The black leather covered scabbard has brass mounts.
Excellent. Tri-color blade retains approximately 90-95% bright fire blue and gilt finishes. Etched areas are excellent retaining nearly all of their original polish with only a few areas of light grey freckles and some scabbard wear on high edges. Hilt and scabbard mounts retain a pleasing mustard patina. Grip has some light wear in high areas and is very good. Scabbard is excellent with only a few minor cracks and marks from use.
