Authentic Documented Palmetto Pistol. 54 caliber with an 8 1/2" barrel.

The Palmetto Armory contracted Model 1842 pistols for the State of South Carolina and they were delivered by William Glaze in 1853. Most saw lots of action during the Civil War. This was was bought right out of a South Carolina family near Columbia but no other history was known other than being in the family for many, many years. In fact the owner remembered playing with it as a child.

Pistol is original and authentic with detailed letter of provenance from Dr. Fred Novy who is the authority and longtime researcher of Palmetto Armory arms.

Markings are crisp and sharp. Lock markings: "Palmetto Tree" surrounded by "PALMETTO ARMORY, S.C." are well struck and easily read as is "COLUMBIA S C. / 1852" on tail. Barrel markings of "P / V” / “palmetto tree” proof and "WM. GLAZE & CO.” on barrel. Barrel tang is dated “1853”. Iron is overall dark patina, lockplate lightly cleaned and has a lighter patina. Brass lightly cleaned with light mustard patina. Stock is sound, solid & well fit with scattered small cosmetic defects, edges rounded but better than average. Mechanically fine with a smooth dark bore with some pitting
