The invention of the polygonal cavity shell is attributed to Colonel John W. Mallet, Superintendent of Confederate Laboratories at Macon, Georgia. The first known production order given on September 6, 1862.
This fine example has a great surface, nice mold seam and a few casting flaws. Appears to be non-dug or an early pick up.
