Rev War American Smooth Headed Lion Horseman's Saber that has been buried in a New York collection for over 50 years and is fresh to the market. Considered by many to be the most desireable of all the lion head pommel swords from this period. A Lion pommel identical to this was dug in a late rev war camp in New York.
This is a prime example with a beautiful just as found look. 31 1/2 inch blade is the desireable tri-fuller found on many horseman's swords of the period. The brass guard, although semi-circular, is somewhat reminiscent of the New England wagon wheel. The lion head has as good of details as any of this pattern including the 'V' shaped teeth in the lion's mouth.
This is a great opportunity to own a really desireable and important sword used by the brave Americans that fought off tyranny and founded the greatest nation the world has ever seen.
Beautiful untouched patina.
