This is very nice example of a desireable American used Revolutionary war musket. These were outdated in France and sold in large numbers to the Americans. Our first muskets produced in Springfield in the 1790's were based on this patern.

Faint but ledgible 'US' marking on the tail of the lockplate. Around 1777 the Continental Congress mandated that all state and continentally owned firearms be permanently marked to prevent theft and unauthorized sale.

Stock is boldly stamped with the initials JP which is believed to be an acceptance mark when inventoried after the revolution.

This musket has a copper wrapped wrist repair. This type of repair is noted on other examples know to have been in the American service and is widely thought to be Army depot or arsenal work of the period. A classic "battlefield fix" or arsenal repair that adds immense character, showing this specific musket saw hard active service.

The barrel is marked crown over B at the breech. This stamp belongs to Antoine Bouissavy, who served as chief controller at the Charleville Royal Manufactory from 1774 to 1778.

Musket is full length with a barrel length of 44 5/8 inches and retains bayonet stud. Length overall is 59 1/2 inches.

This is verified survivor of the War for Independence that remained in our young nations ready-reserve arsenals well into the early 19th century.
