 CalIber 451. (52 bore) SErika number 944. Three band rifle, 33” barrel and overall 50 1/2" length. Iron mounted with Baddely bands. Marked forward of lock "WHITWORTH RIFLE CO., MANCHESTER" and rear of hammer crown and sheaf over "W". The barrel is marked with "52" bore proofs & "944". The trigger guard has the word “Best” engraved on its tang. Typical of Best Quality Whitworths. Heavy dense wood, heavy barrel and polished steel. Schuetzen style buttplate which, though unique, appears to be factory installed. It has checkering on the wrist and forearm. The barrel is mounted with micro adjustable hooded front sight, rack & pinion rear sight and there is a Vernier tang sight mounted on the wrist. The correct rod has a wooden loading tube on it. The nipple is threaded with a protective flanged cap that will screw on and off.

Fine to very fine condition overall. Barrel has traces of finish, but is overall brown with areas of pitting. Balance of metal is smooth with traces of case color on breech and lock. Stock is fine well fit with sharp edges and light varnish. Mechanically excellent with crisp bright bore. PROVENANCE: Ex-George Wray Collection; Atlanta History Center 2005.
