Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). Serial number 6168r. Barrel 23 1/2" with both Polish and WW2 German markings. Blade front sight with hood. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Receiver ring has "147 1938" markings denoting 1938 mfr. by JP Sauer.
Rifle later wartime reworked by German depot with added sight hood, some renumbered parts like bolt & Polish barrel that has Polish eagle, "S" in circle "Z" markings. All visible matching numbers with some renumbered parts likely done by depot. Arsenal blue finish. Laminated stock set with left side sling provisions & leather sling. Right side of butt has faint eagle "H" Heer marking and two faint eagle "37" inspection stamps. Cleaning rod present.
CONDITION: stock set has lightly sanded appearance with a couple small chips, a couple small gouges, some dings and handling marks. Metal retains 40% WW2 German arsenal blue with overall fading to gray most notable on bands,handling marks, oxidation & edge wear. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Very good bright bore with a couple spots of light pitting and frosting but strong rifling. Ships to FFL or FFL-curio.
