 Early Henry Lever Action Repeating Rifle Serial #1296 Caliber 44 Henry Rim fire. Barrel 24 1/4" octagon with integral magazine tube with rotating shroud at muzzle for loading. Early style brass receiver gun with open sight dovetail on top of receiver. Rifle is serial numbered on top flat of barrel forward of receiver, left inside of lower tang, top tang channel of stock, inside of buttplate peak and on side of tang screw. German silver blade front sight witch fixed V notch rear sight. Walnut stock witch early style brass trapdoor buttplate having rounded profile at peak.

The Henry rifle was patented in 1860 & commercial production began in 1862 when this rifle was likely manufactured. The Henry gained fame during the Civil War where it was used by both sides and laid the foundation for the success of the Winchester rifle that became so important to the settlement of this country.

Nice condition showing actual use. Barrel and magazine finish have faded to gray/brown with spots of pitting. Barrel address and serial number remain strong. Brass receiver shows typical scratches and dings with Commensurate with use. Brass is reacquiring a mild age tarnish after past cleanings and shows what appears to be evidence of an original plated finish. Lightly sanded and refinished stock shows small scratches and handling marks. Bore has dark appearance with worn rifling and spots of pitting.
