Extremely Rare ‘ROSE’ Marked NCO Sword

Our Price: sold

For another identical example of this scarce Rose sword, see figure 98 on page 103 of "American Silver-Hilted, Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords" by Daniel D. Hartzler. Circa 1790-1810, this sword has a straight colichemarde-shaped blade and is double edged with both sides faceted. Engraved and gilded decorations on each side include an early federal eagle, floral motifs, and a bird. The steel stirrup hilt has a counterguard on the right side and is stamped "ROSE" on the right side of the knuckle bow, near the pommel. Pommel cap and integral backstrap are faceted. The cherry grip has bulbous sections and is decorated with twisted brass wire.

Very good, overall. Blade retains a grey patina with scattered light freckling. Tip possibly reshaped. Hilt retains a dark brown patina, "ROSE" stamp is excellent. Grip excellent. A very scarce configuration of an early Rose sword.
