Our Price: sold

Fabulous Confederate Texas D-Guard Bowie Knife with Tyler, Texas provenance. This knife is accompanied by a letter from Frederick Edmunds, Curator of the Confederate States Armory and Museum. He states that the knife was purchased from an elderly gentleman named R. Badhorn from Texas, at the Richmond Civil War Show in 1982. He had purchased the knife from the original family, who indicted that the knife was made Tyler, Texas. The knife was displayed in the Confederate States Armory and Museum from its conception to its closing.

The hand forged clip point blade measures 12-7/8" in length and is slightly curved. Knife measures 17-1/2" overall. The blade shows its hand forged construction and a series of forging flaws. The hand forged iron 'D' guard attaches to the top of the antler grip. The knife is complete with its original black leather scabbard with pewter mounts, the top mount has a tin belt loop on the back.

Blade retains a grey patina with scattered marks from use and some darker areas, there are a few nicks to the edge. The guard retains an undisturbed dark brown patina. Grip is very good. Scabbard shows a couple minor cracks and some losses to surface crazing. Superb Confederate 'D' guard Bowie with excellent provenance.
