Pristine Polygonal Confederate 12-pdr Shell

The invention of the polygonal cavity shell is attributed to Colonel John W. Mallet, Superintendent of Confederate Laboratories at Macon, Georgia. The first known production order given on September 6, 1862.

This fine example has a nearly flawless surface and a nice mold seam. Part of captured Confederate ordnance found at a northern arsenal.
