Rare Find! A Really Cool Large Folding Knife with Louisiana State Seals on each side. These knives were manufactured in Sheffield, England and are also found with fixed blades. 

This one has definitely seen it's share of use but remains totally functional. One of the escutcheons was replaced in the period with lead or pewter. Each side features a pelican feeding its young surmounted by 7 stars. 

Their use in the Civil War is well documented including one example dug at Port Hudson and photographed in Historic Treasures of the Civil War by William A. Spedale.
