Sweet 5th Model of 1864 Burnside Carbine 'Cast Steel' Barrel. Standard model .54 caliber, serial number 8379 with a 21" round barrel. Blade front with single leaf rear sight. Case colored action has guide screw on right side with saddle ring and bar on left side. Blued breech block tips down for loading. Band fastened forend and straight grip walnut stock with sling swivel and steel carbine buttplate. Approx. 43,000 sold to the U.S.,1863-65.

Metal retains over 70% lightly blue and case colored finish with strong markings. Wood has some scratches and marks with two sharp inspector cartouche on left side. Bore retains strong rifling showing small spots of pitting. A really fine example with lots of finish.
