Gilded hilt, folding bilobate counter-guard with oak leaves and acorns on the outboard panel, textured inboard panel, acorn quillons, foliate knuckle bow connecting to a chased eagle's head pommel and back strap, carved grip; slight curved single-edge blade with false edge at the tip, rounded spine back, and boldly etched foliate, spread wing eagle, anchor, and naval decorations, with "United States Navy" panel; black leather scabbard with three gilt brass mounts, the throat with rosette frog stud, the center mount with engraved fouled anchor, and the tip with engraved leaf and acorn decoration.
