Smith Cogswell Contract Musket for Militia Use, Albany, New York, c 1811-14.
 
42 1/2 in., .75 caliber round barrel stamped at the breech "P" eagle head and "V" and assembly number "IX" below the vent; flat lock plate with pointed tail marked "1811" and "US" over a spread wing eagle and "S.COGSWELL" below the integrally forged iron pan, the inside surface of the plate with traces of a "HS" or "KS" mark, assembly number "XI" on the forward area of the plate; cherry stock with no visible markings; iron furniture of typical form with sling swivels and later steel rammer with button head and threaded end.
